- On Dec. 1, 2016, English police announce the receipt of hundreds of reports of sexual abuse spread throughout the ranks of English football (soccer). The influx of reports come after a Guardian exposé is published. The police plan to investigate all cases, no matter how old; priority cases will be those that involve current access to children. Former Newcastle United player David Eatock is among the most recent players to come forward. More than a quarter of the nation's police are now investigating the various incidents.
