- On September 6, 2016, Ali Bongo Ondimba is reelected as the president of Gabon, in Africa. President since 2009, his face is plastered throughout the tiny country of 1.8 million people. He became ruler after his father had led the country for 42 years. The results of this election are closer than experts had predicted; he only beat his opposition, Jean Ping, by a few thousand votes. His win is due to a 99.93% turnout of people in his home province Haut-Ogooué. After the results are announced, Ping's supporters riot in the streets of Libreville, Gabon.
