When Bush takes the oath of office on Jan. 20, 2001, he will be the fourth president to have triumphed in the electoral college but to have lost the popular vote. The others were John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, and Benjamin Harrison. Adams is also the only other son of a former president to occupy the Oval Office in his own right.
