Joseph WOOD, Congress, GA (1712-1791)
WOOD, Joseph, a Delegate from Georgia; born in Pennsylvania in 1712; moved to Sunbury, St. John's Parish (afterward Liberty County), Ga., about 1774; served in the Revolutionary War as major, lieutenant colonel, and colonel of the Second Pennsylvania Battalion, which later became the Third Pennsylvania Regiment, and was on duty in Canada in 1776; returned to Georgia and engaged in planting; member of the State council of safety; Member of the Continental Congress 1777-1778; died on his plantation near Sunbury, Ga., in September 1791.
