Earthquake in Puerto Rico
On May 2, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Puerto Rico. The earthquake caused much damage, but no fatalities have been recorded. At this time, there is no tsunami warning. (CNN)

Avalanche in Italy
On May 9, an avalanche in Dolomite Alps of Italy killed a 23-year-old skier. The avalanche was mainly snow and ice and is thought to have been caused by the day’s high temperatures. (CNN)

Earthquake Strikes Nevada
On May 15, a 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck parts of Nevada, making it the worst earthquake the state has seen in 66 years. While many people felt the quake, no injuries have been reported. (CNN)

Michigan Dam Bursts
On May 19, heavy rain across Michigan caused two dams to burst. About 10,000 people have been evacuated as flash flooding increases. No injuries or deaths have been reported. (CNN)

Fire on Pier 45
On May 23, a fire broke out on Pier 45 in San Francisco. The fire began at a warehouse and firefighters have reported that a quarter of the Fisherman’s Wharf pier has been destroyed by the flames. The pier was evacuated and only one injury was reported. Investigators are still looking into the cause of the fire. (CNN)
