Simon Fraser University, main campus at Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada; provincially supported; coeducational; chartered 1963, opened 1965. The Harbour Centre campus in downtown Vancouver opened in 1989. Simon Fraser has faculties of arts, sciences, applied sciences, business administration, education, and graduate studies. The Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing is there, as well as institutes for sensory research, humanities, environmental science, experimental and constructive mathematics, aquaculture, and fisheries analysis. Special facilities include a collection of artifacts of Pacific Northwest coast indigenous peoples and an art museum. Adjoining the Burnaby campus is UniverCity, a high-density suburban residential community built by the university.
