A Second Executive Order Set To Be Signed By President Joe Biden To Protect Abortion Access

Wednesday, August 3, 2022 – After the US supreme court struck down the constitutional right to abortion, the President of the United States is set to sign a second executive order on Wednesday to protect access to reproductive healthcare.
As a result of the supreme court’s decision in June overturning Roe v Wade, the landmark ruling that codified abortion rights for half a century, there’s a ban on the procedure in at least ten states and a partial ban on the procedure in another 4. With abortion rights in about half the country under threat, the ban restriction is being challenged in some other states.
In the Order, Biden is expected to sign at the kick-off meeting for an interagency task force on reproductive rights led by Kamala Harris. The HHS will be directed to help health workers go about the confusing and shifting rules on abortion care due to the decision by the supreme court.

A Summit On Advanced Air Mobility Is To Be Held In The White House On Wednesday

Monday, August 1, 2022 – A spokesperson confirmed that a summit would be held in the White House on Wednesday regarding advanced air mobility, which includes drones and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) will host the summit. Those present include NASA administrator Bill Nelson, Acting Federal Aviation Administration chief Billy Nolen and CEO of Joby Aviation, JoeBen Bevirt. The summit will look at “the future of aviation in America and the regulatory strategy towards responsible and equitable adoption of these technologies.”
The summit will take place as the White House presses Congress to expand government powers to detect and disable threatening drones.
Part of those who will be present at the summit is the National Football League (NFL) Chief Security Officer, along with Homeland Security and Justice Department officials.

Mayor Bowser’s Request To Get Help With Migrant Buses Rejected By Pentagon

Saturday, August 6, 2022 – The Pentagon rejected a request from Washington, D.C.’s Mayor. The request was to get help dealing with thousands of undocumented migrants transported to the city from border states.
Conservatives have criticized US President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and efforts to lift a pandemic-related order that has kept most asylum seekers out.
Later in the week, the US Department of Defence rejected Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser’s request for the helping hand of the National Guard troops to help process the migrants. Lloyd Austin, Secretary of Defence, said the troops’ readiness might be affected if they were diverted to assist with the reception of migrants to the city.
Mayor Bowser said a more specific request would be resubmitted and promised to help increase migrant processing by working towards converting nearby military facilities to processing centers.

Healthcare And Climate Bill of $739 Billion Passed By US Senates After Many Months Of Argument

Sunday, August 7, 2022 – The United States Senate passed the climate and healthcare spending package. This brings Joe Biden one step closer to an important legislative victory ahead of the midterm elections in November.
The bill, formerly known as the Inflation Reduction Act, would allocate $369 billion to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and investing in renewable energy. Experts have estimated that the bill would reduce America’s planet-heating emissions by about 40% come 2023, compared with 2005.
The final vote in the Senate was 51-50, and every Democrat supported the bill. At the same time, all 50 of their Republican counterparts opposed the legislation. Given that the Senate was evenly divided on the bill’s passage, United States Vice President, Kamal Harris, cast the tie-breaking vote.
The Democrats only needed a simple majority to pass the proposal since they used the reconciliation process to advance the bill. This allowed them to avoid a Republican filibuster.

White House Highlights Climate Crisis, As President Joe Biden Visits Kentucky Devastated By Flood

Monday, August 8, 2022 – President Joe Biden toured parts of eastern Kentucky devastated by the worst flooding in the state’s history and promised to help them recover. While his spokesperson gave a clear warning that the climate crisis was having an impact on such events across America.
The floods in Kentucky have killed at least 37 people since a deluge last month that dropped up to 10.5 inches of rain in only 48 hours. In his speech,
Biden said in his speech that the government can do this; it’s not beyond their control. He also added that “the weather may be beyond our control for now” but pledged that they were staying until everybody was back to where they were.
Karine Jean-Pierre, while aboard Air Force One en route to Lexington with Biden and the First Lady, Jill Biden, addressed the issue of climate change in her media briefing.

Sources Say Trump’s Home Was Searched By The FBI Seeking Presidential Records

Wednesday, August 10, 2022 – The Mar-a-Lago residence of Donald Trump in Florida was searched by federal investigators bearing a warrant that broadly sought presidential and classified records.
Sources said the search came after the justice department had reasons to believe that the former president was unlawfully and improperly keeping presidential and classified materials in his Mar-a-Lago residence after discussing it with Trump’s lawyers in recent weeks.
There are significant penalties under the statute governing the willful and unlawful removal or destruction of presidential records. Though the penalties are rarely enforced, they include fines, imprisonment, and, most notably, disqualification from holding current or future office.
But no further action would be taken by the justice department now that it has secured around ten boxes’ worth of documents, in addition to 15 boxes recovered from Mar-a-Lago earlier this year, even though the next step was not immediately clear.

A Car Plowed Into A Crowd In Pennsylvania Killing One And Left 17 Injured

Sunday, August 14, 2022 - A car crashed into a crowd gathered at a Pennsylvania bar thus leaving one person dead and another 17 injured. Authorities said the gathering was for a fundraiser benefiting families devastated by a house fire that killed ten earlier this month.
The crash occurred late in the evening outside the Intoxicology Department bar in Berwick, which had been scheduled to hold an all-day fundraising event to benefit victims of a house fire on August 5. The blaze killed seven adults and three children in Nescopeck.
Pennsylvania state police identified the driver as 24-year-old Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes of Nescopeck. He was arraigned on two counts of criminal homicide.
The local coroner, Francis Hacken, confirmed that the victim, Rosa D. Reyes of Nescopeck, who was 56 years old, was Sura Reye's mother. Hacken also said she died of multiple traumatic injuries after being struck by a vehicle and then beaten with a hammer.

Arizona Police Tasered Two Parents Who Tried To Enter Locked-Down School

Sunday, August 14, 2022 - In Arizona, Police shot two parents with a stun gun as they tried to force their way into a school that the police had locked down after seeing an armed man trying to enter the campus.
Authorities said the parents, along with one other, were arrested when they tried to get to their children to protect them. The officers in the suburb of El Mirage made use of a Taser stun gun to stop two of them. At the same time, they wanted to help a man whose handgun fell to the ground when the police were taking him away into custody.
The authorities confirmed that no shot was fired at Thompson Ranch elementary school, and the school was not breached. No one got hurt except a woman who was taken to the hospital with injuries sustained from a stunt gun fired by officers who said they were trying to stop her from attacking them.

Biden Signs Democratic Landmark Bill As They Take Biggest Step Forward Ever On Climate

Tuesday, August 16, 2022 - On Tuesday, United States President Joe Biden signed the health care, climate, and tax packages, finalizing a landmark bill that democratic party leaders hope will boost their prospects in the midterm elections this November.
In his statement, Biden said, "with this law, the American people won and the special interests lost." He also added that "today offers further proof that the soul of America is vibrant, the future of America is bright, and the promise of America is real and just beginning."
The signing came four days after the House passed the bill in a party-line vote of 220 to 207. Before that, the bill had passed through the Senate on a party-line vote of 51 to 50, with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie in the evenly divided chamber.
Chuck Schumer, the Senate majority leader, spent months quietly negotiating with Manchin over a narrower spending package, which resulted in the Inflammation Reduction Act.

Former US Vice-President Mike Pence Condemns Republicans' Attacks In FBI Over Search Of Mar-A-Lago

Wednesday, August 17, 2022 - The former Vice-President of the United States, Mike Pence, has condemned attacks on the FBI by Republicans after former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago property was searched by federal authorities.
While at New Hampshire's Saint Anselm College on Wednesday, Mike Pence told his fellow Republicans that "we can hold the attorney general accountable for the decision that he made without attacking the rank-and-file law enforcement personnel at the FBI."
He also said the Republican Party is the party of law and order. The party stands with the men and women who serve at the federal, state, and local levels. He urges everyone to stop the attack on the FBI.
The former Vice President also added that he had not made a final decision on whether or not he would be testifying before the January 6 select committee that is currently investigating Trump's effort to overturn or delegitimize the 2020 election result.

A Summit Targeted At Hate-Fueled Violence To Be Held At The White House By President Biden In September

Friday, August 19, 2022 - The White House on Friday confirmed that the President of the United States, Joe Biden, plans to host a summit at the White House in September to counter the effects of hate-fueled violence on American democracy and highlight his administration's action to reduce gun violence.
White House Press Secretary Karen Jean-Pierre said in a statement that the summit coming up on September 15, dubbed "United We Stand," will bring together officials, civil rights groups, and faith leaders and feature a keynote speech by President Biden, who will reveal a shared vision for a more United America.
Biden, a member of the Democrat, is seeking to highlight his recent legislative wins, which include a gun safety he signed in June, ahead of the November congregational election.
Republicans look forward to winning more House seats and see the Democrat-controlled Senate as up for Grabs. Biden's legislative plan for the second half of his four-year term could be affected if the Republicans control one of both Chambers.

The Administration Of President Biden Touts An Infrastructure Bill Of $1 Trillion

Saturday, August 20, 2022 - The White House is ramping up efforts to push the $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and efforts to repair the roads, bridges, and airports and reduce emissions.
Secretary of Transportation of the United States, Pete Buttigieg, will embark on a four-day, six-state tour on Tuesday. The tour will see him visit Florida, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Ohio, Nevada, and New Hampshire to discuss infrastructure law.
White House infrastructure coordinator Mitch Landrieu in an interview earlier in the week, said, "they are building a team, they are getting money out of the door, and they are telling the story." He also added that the bill is transformational, which will fund public lands, clean water, and electric grids.
Earlier in the week, the Commerce Department said it received applications from all 50 states for initial planning awards under the $42.45 billion fund to extend broadband Internet to unserved areas.

Three Police Officers In Arkansas Have Been Suspended After A Video Shows A Beating

Monday, August 22, 2022 - Arkansas State Police have started an investigation after a video that showed three local law enforcement officers beating a man during an arrest went viral. As seen in the video, the man being arrested was punched by one of the officers and had his head slammed against the pavement.
State Police claimed the man had been accused of making threats in a shop earlier. The Police also said that when the suspect, 27-year-old Randall Worcester, was confronted by the police officers, he pushed a deputy to the ground, leading to the arrest in the video.
In the video, one officer beat the suspect while another repeatedly knees him in the back. The third officer, however, restrained the suspect on the ground. Both officers are dressed in the uniform of the Crawford County Sheriff's office.

Anthony Fauci To Resign From Government Posts

Tuesday, August 23, 2022 - The top U.S. infectious disease official, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who became the face of America's COVID-19 pandemic response under the administration of Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden, made it known that he is going to step down in December after 54 years of public service.
The veteran immunologist has served as an adviser to seven United States presidents, with Republican Ronald Reagan being the first, focusing on newly emerging and re-emerging infectious disease dangers, which include HIV/AIDS, Ebola, Zika, Monkeypox, and COVID-19.
Various conservatives often criticized Fauci, and people who objected to CDC guidelines, such as vaccination, social distancing, and masking, that he believed could limit the lethality of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fauci told reporters that he felt staying as long as he did was worth it. He also said, "it is rather unfortunate, but it is a fact of life that we are living in a very, very divisive society right now."

By 2035, Gasoline-Only Cars Will No Longer Be Sold In California

Friday, August 26, 2022 - California moved to require all new vehicles sold in the state to be either electric or plug-in electric hybrids by 2035, a move that could hasten up the end of gasoline-powered cars.
Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, previously announced the plan to eradicate vehicles that run on gasoline only by 2035 in September 2020. The new rules were approved after the California Air Resource Board Voted, which set yearly rising zero-emission vehicle rules starting in 2026. Still, before the plan can be effective, the Biden administration must approve the new requirement.
Liane Randolph, California Air Resource Board Chair, said, "this is a historic moment for California, our partner states, and the world as we set a path towards a zero-emission future.
California Air Resource Board also said there will be 2.9 million fewer gas-powered vehicles sold by 2030, widening to 9.5 million fewer conventional vehicles by 2035.

United State Close To Appointing The First Arctic Ambassador

Saturday, August 27, 2022 - The United States plans to have an Ambassador appointed for the Arctic due to the increased Russian military activity in the region. According to a Department of State spokesman, the Ambassador-at-large will be put in place to advance United States policy in the Northern polar region.
Jens Stoltenberg, NATO chief, warned sternly about the threat posed by Russia in the northern polar region. He also expressed concern about China's reach into the Arctic.
Vedant Patel, the State Department spokesman, said the new United States ambassador would engage with the seven other Arctic nations, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Russia, as well as other stakeholders and indigenous groups.
The announcement was made after Russia stepped up its presence near the North Pole, while China, on the other hand, has been building Arctic research stations.

US Government Backs Production Of Monkeypox Vaccine With $11 Million

Monday, August 29, 2022 - On Monday, the United States government said about $11 million would be provided to support the packaging of Bavaria Nordic's Jynneos monkeypox vaccine at the United States-based manufacturer's facility.
The Danish company, the producer of the only approved monkeypox vaccine, signed up Michigan-based Grand Aseptic Manufacturing earlier this month to get the two-dose shot packaged. The funding will help the manufacturer recruit more staff and buy additional equipment. The United State Department of Health and Human Services confirmed that productions are expected to begin this year.
The number rod confirmed monkeypox cases around the world had crossed 47,600, with the United States having reported over 17,000 cases so far.
There is a short supply of the Jynneos vaccine, and United States regulators have authorized a method of administration that allows providers to get five doses rather than one from a single vial to expand access.

Shock In A School In Oakland, As 12-Year-Old Allegedly Shoots Classmates

Tuesday, August 30, 2022 – In a school in Oakland, California, A 12-year-old boy was arrested by the police after allegedly shooting and wounding his 13-year-old classmate.
The shooting erupted at Madison Park Academy in East Oakland. Local police confirmed that the alleged shooter was immediately detained, while his victim was admitted into the hospital in what is now described as a stable condition.
Libby Schaaf, the Mayor of Oakland, expressed relief that the victim was recovering but was concerned about the ongoing gun violence battering the city and the United States. "School should be the safest place for our kids," she wrote on her Twitter page. She also added, "the increased level of gun violence in our country and our city is heartbreaking and unacceptable."
Authorities are yet to confirm whether the shooting was deliberate or an accident. Either way, the case emphasizes the exceptionally high rate of death and injury suffered by children due to the country's permissive stance on guns.
