Threat of Mudslide in Southern California
On March 1, the threat of a deadly mudslide has caused officials to evacuate nearly 30,000 people in Southern California. The mudslide is expected to occur soon. (Reuters)

Storm in Northeast Kills Five
On March 2, a storm travelling through the American Northeast killed at least five people. Winds were up to 80 miles per hour and torrential rain flooded the streets of Boston. Nearly 1.7 million homes and businesses lost power during the storm. By March 3, 1.5 million people were still without power and the flooding continued. (Reuters)

Earthquake in El Salvador
On March 4, a 5.1 magnitude earthquake shook buildings in El Salvador. No damage or casualties have been reported. (Reuters)

Another Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea
After two deadly earthquakes a few weeks ago, Papua New Guinea was hit with another 6.7 magnitude quake on March 6. No casualties have been reported thus far. (Reuters)

US Northeast Faces Second Nor’easter in a Week
On March 8, a second nor’easter hit the Northeast, killing at least one person. 530,000 people were left without power after the second storm, 40,000 of whom were still without power after the first bomb cyclone. (CNN)

Third Blizzard Hits New England
On March 13, New England’s third winter storm knocked out power, causing flights to be cancelled and schools to be closed. About 20 inches of snow fell and 140,000 homes and businesses lost power. (Reuters)

Ships Warned Away from Underwater Volcano in Caribbean
On March 14, an underwater volcano began showing activity in the Caribbean. Ships have been warned away from the area. The volcano is being called Kick ‘em Jenny. (BBC)

Rockslide in Portugal
On March 15, one tourist was killed and another injured by a rockslide after a violent storm in Portugal. (Reuters)

17 Dead in Madagascar Tropical Storm
On March 19, tropical storm Eliakim blew through Madagascar, killing at least 17 people. The storm also displaced 6,000 people. (Reuters)

Fourth Nor’easter Hits East
On March 21, the East Coast experienced its fourth nor’easter in the last three weeks. The storm brought heavy snow that caused many schools to close and flights to be cancelled. (CNN)

Volcano Releases Toxic Gas in Indonesia
On March 22, 30 people were sent to a hospital in Indonesia after a volcano released sulphuric gas. 200 other people were forced to evacuate the area. (Reuters)

Earthquake Hits Papua New Guinea
On March 24, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Papua New Guinea. However, unlike the earthquake nearly a month ago, this one did not cause any damages or fatalities. (Reuters)

Yet Another Quake Strikes Papua New Guinea
On March 26, Papua New Guinea was hit with another 6.6 magnitude earthquake. No casualties or damages have been reported. (Reuters)
