Based on a book by Robert A. Heinlein |
They're young, they're beautiful, they fight giant bugs. Starship Troopers follows the life of Johnny Rico (Van Dien), a soldier in the Mobile Infantry during the “Bug War,” a battle between humans and a race of insects half a galaxy away. Men and women fight (and shower) side by side in the Mobile Infantry (unlike the book, which was written in the 50s). The movie also throws in a tragic love story. While Heinlein's book takes a thoughtful and intellectual look at life in a futuristic combat unit and explores the nature of citizenship, the movie concentrates on graphically violent scenes punctuated by inane commercial-like interludes.
