Whatever happened to “all for one and one for all?” Filmdom's latest adaptation of Dumas's adventure classic The Three Musketeers shears away some characters (most notably Milady) and cuts down the title to The Musketeer.

Former model Justin Chambers stars as D'Artagnan in a fairly straight rendering of the swashbuckling tale: swords, muskets, and political intrigue in 17th-century France. His love interest is played by Mena Suvari, and the regal Catherine Deneuve gets a role as the Queen. She's thoroughly game, and helps to glue some of the stray plot points together.

Director Peter Hyams has no discernible style, but perhaps that's because he was busy being his own cinematographer. The fight scenes borrow heavily from Hong Kong-style choreography; indeed, they are meant to distinguish this flashy-but-average remake from a handful of other versions.
