Matt Groening's second animated series for Fox lacks the incisive wit of The Simpsons, his first animated series, though it's not short on lowbrow humor. Fry (voice of West) leads a going-nowhere existence, until he accidentally freezes himself on December 31, 1999. He wakes up 1,000 years later in a very different New York City. His job with a futuristic delivery service takes him to five quadrants of the universe, where he encounters a decidedly odd cast of characters.
