William EVERHART, Congress, PA (1785-1868)
EVERHART William , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Chester County, Pa., May 17, 1785; attended the common schools and became a civil engineer; served in the War of 1812 as captain of a company of riflemen; was the only passenger saved from the packet ship wrecked off the coast of Ireland in 1822; upon his return to Pennsylvania he platted a large addition to the city of West Chester; was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); was not a candidate for renomination; engaged in mercantile pursuits; died in West Chester, Pa., October 30, 1868; interment in Oakland Cemetery.
