Wesley Powell 1959-1961; deputy attorney general and attorney general of New Hampshire in 1961, until appointed on December 7, 1961, as a Republican to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of H. Styles Bridges and served from December 7, 1961, until November 6, 1962; unsuccessful candidate for nomination in 1962 for election to the vacancy; resumed the practice of law; chairman of the board and general counsel of the Portsmouth (N.H.) Savings Bank 1968-1988; was a resident of Stratham, N.H. at the time of his death on October 27, 2002; interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Greenland, N.H.
