Joseph Meriwether TERRELL, Congress, GA (1861-1912)

TERRELL Joseph Meriwether , a Senator from Georgia; born in Greenville, Meriwether County, Ga., June 6, 1861; attended the common schools; studied law; admitted to the bar in 1882 and commenced practice in Greenville, Ga.; member, State house of representatives 1884-1887; member, State senate 1890; attorney general of Georgia 1892-1902; Governor of Georgia 1902-1907; resumed the practice of law in Atlanta, Ga.; appointed as a Democrat to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Alexander S. Clay and served from November 17, 1910, to July 14, 1911, when he resigned; again resumed the practice of his profession in Atlanta, Ga., and died there November 17, 1912; interment in the City Cemetery, Greenville, Ga.
