John SNYDER, Congress, PA (1793-1850)
SNYDER John , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa., January 29, 1793; attended the rural schools; served in the War of 1812 as captain of Selinsgrove Rifle Volunteers, Pennsylvania Militia; connected with the Snyder Spring Oil Co. and paper mills; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Twenty-eighth Congress; resumed former business pursuits; died in Selinsgrove, Snyder County, Pa. August 15, 1850; interment in the New Lutheran Cemetery.
