John NELSON, Congress, MD (1791-1860)
NELSON John , a Representative from Maryland; born in Frederick, Frederick County, Md., June 1, 1791; graduated from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va., 1811; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1813 and commenced practice in Frederick, Md.; held several local offices; elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress (March 4, 1821-March 3, 1823); was not a candidate for reelection in 1822 to the Eighteenth Congress; appointed by President Jackson United States Chargé d'Affaires to the Two Sicilies on October 24, 1831-October 15, 1832; Attorney General of the United States and Secretary of State ad interim in the Cabinet of President Tyler, 1843-1845; died in Baltimore, Md., January 18, 1860; interment in Greenmount Cemetery.
