Jacob Banks KURTZ, Congress, PA (1867-1960)
KURTZ Jacob Banks , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Delaware Township, Juniata County, Pa., October 31, 1867; attended the public schools; was graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., and from Dickinson Law School in 1893; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Altoona, Pa.; district attorney of Blair County 1905-1912; chairman of the committee of public safety and council of national defense for Blair County during the First World War; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-eighth and to the five succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1923-January 3, 1935); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1934 to the Seventy-fourth Congress; resumed the practice of law; delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1936, 1940, and 1948; city solicitor of Altoona, Pa., 1944-1946; died in Altoona, Pa., September 18, 1960; interment in Alto Reste Burial Park.
