Benjamin ESTIL, Congress, VA (1780-1853)

ESTIL Benjamin , a Representative from Virginia; born in Hansonville (now Russell County), Va., March 13, 1780; received an academic education, and attended Washington Academy (now Washington and Lee University), Lexington, Va.; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Abingdon, Va.; prosecuting attorney for Washington County; member of the State house of delegates 1814-1817; elected as an Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1827); judge of the fifteenth judicial circuit from 1831 until 1852, when he resigned; retired to a farm in Oldham County, Ky., where he died July 14, 1853.
