Elmer Gertz
Age: 93civil-rights attorney who in 1958 won parole for Nathan Leopold, who, with Richard Loeb, was convicted in the 1924 killing of 14-year-old Bobby Franks. He also had the murder conviction of Lee Harvey Oswald killer, Jack Ruby, overturned. In addition, Gertz successfully defended Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer on obscenity charges. He died of cancer.
