Birthplace: Salt Lake City, Utah
Thurman dropped out of the University of Southern California in 1925 and moved to Harlem. He worked on a number of magazines, and wrote several novels, the most famous of which are The Blacker the Berry (1929) and Infants of the Spring (1932). His work often satirized the Harlem Renaissance and Black life.
