Tell us about your work---what do you do? Manage a group of 13 Account Executives selling term life insurance within a team/call center environment. What skills are needed? Time management and people/ communication are the two top skills needed. What was your major? Business . How did you get started in your career? Started in sales 16+ years ago. My interest in sales continued to grow over the years. I have always worked in leadership roles and gravitated towards management naturally. What experience do you need in this job? Sales experience is a given. Having the experience in leadership roles, working with multiple and individual people to solve problems is also a given. Describe your "typical" workday: I usually try to start at least one half-hour early so I can check email and voicemail and prepare to pass down any pertinent information to the team. I greet the team as their day begins; answering any questions or concerns that we need to resolve. What is the hardest aspect of your job? Time management. There are many interruptions throughout the day and I need to stay focused on the task at hand. Remember, 13 employees, plus 14 other managers, plus 5 employees from our individual underwriting team as well as the 100+ other employees within the call center who may for some reason be looking for me! What is the most rewarding aspect of your job? Having employees succeed that you are coaching and mentoring. When you put lots of time and energy into developing individuals, and the success shows, you feel successful as well. When my employees succeed, I succeed. What are your suggestions for someone considering this field? Again, time management skills are a definite must. Having the ability to juggle multiple people, issues, email and voicemail on a daily basis is a skill to be mastered. Enthusiasm, positive energy and motivation are also qualities needed when managing in a team environment. Empowering your people with these qualities will make your job much more enjoyable!.com/edu/explorecareers/careerprofiles/insurance_sales_manager.html
