Ivins, Molly (Mary Tyler Ivins), 1944–2007, U.S. journalist and political columnist, b. Monterey, Calif., B.A. Smith College, 1966, M.A. Columbia School of Journalism, 1967. A decided liberal with a strongly Texan persona, she worked for the Minneapolis Tribune (1967–70), the Texas Observer (1970–76), the New York Times (1976–82), the Dallas Times Herald (1982–92), and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (1992–2001) before becoming a widely syndicated independent columnist. Her best-known writing was for the Observer, an independent political journal, where she skewered Texas politics and politicians. Among her books are two she wrote with Lou Dubose about George W. Bush: Shrub (2000) and Bushwhacked (2003).
