Partial Shutdown Avoided As United State House Passes Crucial Stopgap Government Funding Bill

Friday, September 30, 2022 – On Friday, a bill funding the federal government through Dec. 16 passed the United State House of Representatives to avoid a partial shutdown less than six weeks before the midterm elections when the control of the congress is on the line.
The federal agencies' funding from the government, which is due to expire at midnight, saw the House lawmakers send the legislation on to the White House, where President Joe Biden signed the measure into law.
The bill, which includes an additional $12.3 billion for supporting Ukraine against the invasion of Russia, passed the 100-seat Senate on Thursday with bipartisan support. But it faced major opposition in the House from Republicans, including the party leader Kevin McCarthy. Few Republicans joined all Democrats present in approving the bill in a vote of 226 to 200.
There would have been a partial shutdown of the government agencies on Saturday due to lack of funding if the bill was not passed.

Jackson Describes Her Appointment As An Inspiration Among Americans, As She Embarks On First Term In The U.S. Supreme Court

Saturday, October 1, 2022 – Ketanji Brown Jackson, a Liberal Supreme Court Justice of the United State, and the first Black woman to serve on the court described her appointment as one that will inspire pride among Americans she has encountered.
As the Supreme Court opens its new term on Monday, Justice Jackson will hear her first argument. The conservative-dominated judicial body has shown an increasing willingness to exert its power on various issues.
While speaking at the Library of Congress following her formal induction, Jackson did not discuss the court’s ideological split; she rather focused on how her elevation to the high court will benefit historically marginalized communities.
While giving her remarks, Jackson said, “people from all walks of life approach me with what I can only describe as a profound sense of pride. And what feels to me like renewed ownership. I can see it in their eyes."

Center For Disease Control And Prevention In The United State Has Ended Country-Specific COVID Travel

Monday, October 3, 2022 – On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United State ended its COVID-19 country travel health notices as enough data for accurate assessments were recorded by fewer countries.
In April, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released its “Do Not Travel COVID-19 recommendations for about 90 international destinations, saying it would reserve level 4 travel health notices for special circumstances. With Level 4, all Americans are expected to avoid travel because of COVID-19, even those who are fully vaccinated.
On Monday, CDC said, "as fewer countries are testing or reporting COVID-19 cases, CDC’s ability to accurately assess the COVID-19 (travel health notice) levels for most destinations that American travelers visit is limited."
Little attention has been drawn to the notices since April since CDC was not issuing blanket recommendations against travel for specific countries.

Trump Asks For The Intervention Of The Supreme Court In Mar-A-Lago Special Master Dispute

Wednesday, October 5, 2022 - Former President of the United State, Donald Trump, asked the Supreme Court of the United State to partially reverse an appellate court decision that prevented the special master reviewing for privilege protections materials seized from his Mar-a-Lago resort by the FBI in August, from examining 100 documents with classification markings.
The motion to vacate the ruling by the United State appeals court for the 11th circuit represents the final chance for the former president to have the 100 documents reinserted into the special master review and potentially exclude some from the investigation of whether he retained national defense information illegally.
In the emergency request, Trump's lawyers argued that the appellate court does not have the jurisdiction to overrule the trial judge and decide that access to the 100 documents should be retained by the justice department and that the special master should be prohibited from examining them in the review.

Mayor Of New York City Declares State Of Emergency Due To Migration Crisis

Friday, October 7, 2022 – The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, declared a state of emergency in response to thousands of migrants trooping to the city in recent months from the Country’s southern borders in what is said to be a political dispute over border security.
During his speech at City Hall, Adams said that to manage the influx of migrants, the city is expected to spend $1 billion. He noted that New York City had welcomed more than 17,000 migrants since April, and an average of five or six buses conveyed migrants into the city since the beginning of September, straining the city’s homeless shelter system.
The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, seeking a third term in November’s United States midterm elections, has transported over 3,000 migrants to New York. Adams criticized Abbott for failing to notify the officials when sending migrants to the city, describing it as a manufactured crisis.

Abortion Ban In Arizona Temporarily Blocked By Appeals Court

Saturday, October 8, 2022 – an appeal court has temporarily blocked Arizona from enforcing a 1901 ban on nearly all abortions in the state; the appeal court ruling overruled the trial court decision last month to let the ban proceed.
The courts of appeal in Arizona granted Planned Parenthood’s request for an emergency stay of the Pima County Superior Court’s ruling on September 23, which lifted an injunction on the ban. In its challenge of that decision, the appeals court said the abortion-rights advocacy group "demonstrated a substantial likelihood of success."
The Presiding Judge, Peter Eckerstrom wrote that “the court further concludes the balance of hardships weigh strongly in favor of granting the stay, given the acute need of healthcare providers, prosecuting agencies, and the public for legal clarity as to the application of our criminal laws."

Two People Shot Dead Outside The Home Of New York Congressman

Monday, October 10, 2022 – Two people were shot just outside the home, a New York congressman and Republican New York gubernatorial candidate, Lee Zeldin, who, in his campaign, has made addressing crime and violence a key point.
Police and other official authorities report that the shooting doesn’t connect to the Zeldin family; Zeldin confirmed he does not know the identities of the two individuals who were shot and that only his two daughters were at home at the time of the shooting. In his comments, Zeldin said, "his daughters are shaken, but ok, and like so many New Yorkers, crime has made its way to their front door."
The two people injured in the incident were taken to area hospitals for treatment, Suffolk County Police said. Kathy Hochul, the New York Governor Zeldin is running against, confirmed she had been briefed on the shooting.

Over The Racist Remarks By The Member Of LA City Council, President Biden Has Called For Their Resignation

Tuesday, October 11, 2022 – The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has requested the resignation of the Los Angeles city council members caught on tape making racist comments in a meeting last year.
The discovered video shows three Latino city council members and a labor leader discussing the city’s redrawing of council district boundaries amid the redistricting process and the need to make sure Latino members are re-elected to protect the economic interest within Latino districts.
Of the three council members in the video, Council President Nury Martinez stepped down, apologized on Monday, and said she would take a leave of absence from the council. Still, Gil Cedillo and Kevin de Leon have yet to vacate their seats but have apologized.
On Tuesday, the press secretary of the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, said President Biden thought all three members should resign.

A 15-Year-Old Suspect In Custody, After Mass Shooting That Occurred In North Carolina

Friday, October 14, 2022 - The police have confirmed that a boy suspected of a mass shooting in North Carolina began the rampage by shooting a relative at home. Five people were killed, including an off-duty police officer, and two were injured in the attack in Raleigh.
The suspect is a 15-year-old in critical condition in the hospital; however, it is unclear how he got injured. Police also said the motive of the unnamed suspect is yet to be established. He is white, and the victims are all of different races.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 533 mass shootings (four or more shots) in the United States this year.
Estella Patterson, Raleigh Police Chief, said on Friday morning, "her heart is heavy because they don't have answers as to why this tragedy occurred."

Migrants Will Be Flown To Illinois And Delaware On The Order Of Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis

Saturday, October 15, 2022 - The spokeswoman of Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida, said on Saturday that the governor plans to continue flying migrants that are not documented to Democratic strongholds, a day after records released showed the state paid nearly $1m to arrange two sets flights to Delaware and Illinois.
The documents earlier released Friday showed that the planned flights would transport 100 migrants. They were scheduled for before October 3 but were halted or postponed. According to the memo released by the department of transportation of the state, the trip's window was extended by the contractor hired by Florida.
DeSantis communications director Taryn Fenske when asked about the reason for the flight's postponement said Florida has been busy dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
DeSantis will also likely run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024.

President Biden Has Opened Applications For Student Loan Debt Forgiveness

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 - The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has formally launched his student loan forgiveness scheme, which could see federal loans up to billions of dollars canceled. The planned scheme, which applies to tens of millions of graduates, means up to $20,000 (£17,600) of debt per borrower could be written off.
A group of six states, led by Republicans, have challenged the plan in court to block it from taking effect. They have argued that the proposed scheme, which independent analyst has estimated, will cost $400bn, which is too expensive and places an unfair burden on some taxpayers.
As the scheme is at risk of being put on hold due to the legal challenges in court, Mr. Biden has, in turn, launched his defense plan. He said, "he will never apologize for helping working Americans and middle-class people as they recover from the pandemic."

The Militia In New Mexico Blamed For Protest Violence Has Been Banned By Judge

Wednesday, October 19, 2022 - A militia group that was blamed for sparking violence at a 2020 anti-statue demonstration in the southwestern US state of New Mexico, where a protester was shot, has been outlawed by a judge in the state.
The ruling resulted from what law experts refer to as the country's first civil lawsuit by a district attorney, who seeks to have the public protected from actions by vigilantes and citizen paramilitary groups.
District Court Judge Elaine Lujan ruled that the New Mexico Civil Guard (NMCG) was banned from carrying out its operation as a military unit because only the state government had the authority to activate a militia. The group NMCG was also outlawed from acting as law enforcement at protests or demonstrations.
The founder of the disbanded NMCG, Bryce Provance, said the group tried to prevent clashes in the community and also protect the community.

Six People Killed In Wisconsin Due To A Fatal Apartment Fire

Friday, October 21, 2022 - In suburban Milwaukee on Friday, six people were confirmed dead in a predawn apartment fire, and police confirm that the authorities have opened a criminal investigation for any clue that the blaze may have been started deliberately.
The fire report came shortly after 5 a.m. in a four-unit apartment house in Hartland, Westoning, about 25 miles west of Milwaukee. Torin Misko, the town's police chief, confirmed during a media brief at the scene.
Misko added that the Police and fire department crew called to the scene "were met with a large amount of fire and began rescuing individuals from the building and balconies."
When asked if the authorities indicated that the fire was intentionally set, Misko said that is what has been looked into. He also added that criminal investigation of fatal fires is a matter of routine for law enforcement.

Former United States President Donald Trump Has Been Summoned To Testify To Jan. 6 U.S Capitol Riot Panel

Saturday, October 22, 2022 - United States Former President Donald Trump has been ordered to testify under oath and have documents provided to the House of Representatives Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the United State Capitol by his supporters.
The committee confirmed that it had sent a subpoena to Trump, which requires documents to be submitted to the panel by November 4 and for Mr. Trump to appear for deposition testimony beginning on or about November 14.
In a Letter to Trump, the committee wrote that as demonstrated in their hearings, overwhelming evidence has been gathered, including from dozens of Trump's former appointees and staff, that he orchestrated the oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power.
The committee's announcement came after a former adviser to Trump, Steve Bannon, was sentenced to four months in federal prison for refusing to cooperate with the panel's investigation.

Gunman Broke Into St Louis High School And Killed Two People

Monday, October 24, 2022 – Two People were killed on Monday when a gunman broke into a St Louis high school before he was shot dead by the police. Several other people were injured in a deadly attack that would likely reignite debate about gun control in the United States.
A freshman at Central Visual and Performance Arts high school said, “they thought it was a regular intruder drill. But when they heard sirens outside, and the teachers even started to get scared, they realized that it wasn’t just a standard drill.
There was a condemnation of the mindless violence of the tragedy by the White House as they called for more action to end gun deaths.
It was reported that the police entered the school at around 9:10 am, shortly after they received calls about a shooter who later died.

Former Secretary Of Defense Of The United States, Ash Carter, Dies At Age 68

Tuesday, October 25, 2022 – The family of Ash Carter, the secretary of defense of the United States during the administration of Obama, confirmed in a statement that he died at the age of 68 after suffering a sudden cardiac event.
He gradually ascended to the pentagon’s top job after a decade-long work. Carter helped oversee the launch of a military strategy that would ultimately drive back the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq and ultimately defeat the militant group.
During Carter’s term as Secretary of Defense, the United States military opened the military's role to women and ended a ban on openly serving transgender service members. Carter strongly criticized Trump’s decision to reimpose the ban in 2017.
With limited resources, he endeavored to quickly bridge a gaping divide between the Pentagon and Silicon Valley to bring technological innovations to the Department of Defense.

A House Fire That Broke Out In Oklahoma Kills Eight People

Friday, October 28, 2022 – A house fire that broke out in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, has killed eight people, where police said it had begun an investigation to determine whether it was a homicide.
Police confirm that the neighbors reported a fire outbreak in a suburb of about 40,000 people. The details of what happened to the people killed provided by the officials were insufficient.
The spokesperson of Broken Arrow police, Ethan Hutchins, told reporters that the preliminary reports of the incident are that it is going to be a homicide investigation. He added, "they are still trying to put out the fire and investigate what happened to the victims."
Hutchins said that due to the scene's complexity, Agents from the United State Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives were called to help with investigations.

Nancy Pelosi’s Husband, Paul Pelosi Hospitalized With Skull Fracture After He Was Attacked

Saturday, October 29, 2022 – The Husband of United State House Speaker Paul Pelosi was hospitalized with a skull fracture after he was attacked with a hammer by an assailant at the house of the couple in California, it was reported that the attacker was shouting "Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?"
According to the longtime spokesperson of Nancy Pelosi, Drew Hammill, Paul Pelosi, who is 82 years old, is expected to make a full recovery after undergoing successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and other serious injuries sustained during the assault.
The Police of San Francisco said that Paul Pelosi managed to call 911. Still, he did not report the situation directly. The dispatcher sent officers to follow up with a well-being check. They found that an adult male confronted Paul Pelosi, and both men were grasping a hammer. The suspect is identified as a 42 years-old David DePape.
