Russia Has Suspended The Partial Mobilization Of Citizens For The Ukraine War

Tuesday, November 1, 2022 – Russia announced that it had completed its "partial mobilization" of hundreds of thousands of citizens to fight in the country's war on Ukraine, therefore bringing an end to a controversial draft that sparked protest in the country.
The Ministry of Defense in Russia confirmed that all partial mobilization activities, which includes summons deliveries, had been suspended, along with “all activities related to conscription for military service.” A statement from the ministry added that the country will only be accepting volunteers and contractors from now on
The mobilization was announced by Russia's President, Vladimir Putin, in late September after Russia suffered a significant setback on the battlefields in Ukraine. Officials confirmed that the target of the draft to recruit 300,000 personnel had been met as of last week.
The draft, which Putin strictly defended, had a chaotic execution that promoted hundreds of thousands to flee Russia.

Missile Lands Off South Korean Coast, As North Korea Fires 17 Missiles

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 – At least 17 missiles were fired into the sea by North Korea, including one that landed less than 60 km (40 miles) off the coast of South Korea, which the President of South Korea described as a territorial encroachment by Pyongyang.
For the first time since the peninsula was divided, that was the first time a ballistic missile had landed near South's waters. It is also the most missiles North Korea has ever fired in a single day. South Korea issued a rare air raid warning and launched missiles in response as tensions spiraled in the region.
In response, the South Korean military confirmed that their warplanes fired three air-to-ground missiles into the sea north of the Northern Limit Line (NLL). According to an official, the weapons used included an AGM-84H/K SLAM-ER, which is a "stand-off" precision attack weapon made by the United States; it can fly up to 270 km (170 miles) with a 360 kg (800-pound) warhead.

The Ban On Abortion Has Been Delayed By A Town In New Mexico

Friday, November 4, 2022 – A vote on an ordinance which is designed to ban abortions within the town of New Mexico near the Texas Border was put off by the city commission of Clovis, fearing challenges to the move in a state where the procedure remains legal.
According to anti-abortion advocates, Clovis was set to become the first town to pass a so-called “sanctuary city for the unborn” ordinance in a state controlled by the Democratic Party; they describe it as part of a national push into blue states.
The city commission of the nearby town of Hobbs is expected to take up a similar measure soon. Clovis and Hobbs are both in conservative eastern New Mexico. It is said that there is no abortion clinic in Hobbs.
All eight members of the Clovis commission agreed that they wanted to ban abortions, but seven of them voted for the ban to be delayed until they could perfect the language to better protect against litigation.

Flu Cases In The United State Hospitals Are At Highest In Decades, Amid Winter Vaccination Warning

Saturday, November 5, 2022 – Experts warn that other Covid variants and respiratory illnesses are on the rise as hospitalization of patients from the flu are at the highest they have been in decades. The United State Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that flu-related cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are all at a ten-year high, with the most affected people being adults over the age of 65 and young children.
Heading into the weekend, the cases reported were at least 1,600,000, with 13,000 hospitalizations and a death toll rising to 730 from the flu, higher than the usual case count during this time of the year.
Community members are been urged by the hospitals who are feeling the strain from increased admissions to get their wintertime vaccinations and keep the number of serious illnesses as low as possible.

The Florida Governorship Race Ended With Desantis Defeating Charlie Crist

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 – The Incumbent Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, a Republican, won the governorship election with a 10-point lead over his Democratic opponent, Charlie Crist, who was a former Republican governor of the Sunshine State. He most recently is also a United State Representative for Florida’s 13th District in Pinellas County.
While the race between DeSantis was not particularly contentious, the candidates, however, made their opposing stances clear on issues like abortion, public health, and the response of the government to the pandemic.
Moments after the closing of polls in Panhandle, DeSantis was declared the winner. According to the associated press, DeSantis won with 57.2% of the vote, with 73% of the vote counted as of 8:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
In other to celebrate his election night victory over Crist, DeSantis chose. His supporters gathered early to watch the returns.

Democrats Notch Key Win, As Fetterman Wins Pennsylvania Senate Race

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 – John Fetterman, whom Democrats poured their hopes of preserving the senate, which has long been held by Republicans, flipped the seat after defeating Mehmet Oz to capture the Senate race in Pennsylvania.
Fetterman's victory was huge for the Democrats on a night that many expected would deliver a rebuke to the party and national level, as Republicans framed the midterms as a referendum on President Biden over high inflation, immigration, and crime.
Fetterman, the 53-years old politician who suffered a near-fatal stroke back in May returned to campaigning months later with hesitant, altered speech, while he portrayed himself as “fighting for everyone in Pennsylvania that ever got knocked down.”
More than $100 million was pumped into the Fetterman race to capture the seat held by retiring senator Pat Toomey. Democrats saw it as their best opportunity to add a Senate seat.

A Runoff Election In Georgia May Yet Again Decide The Fate Of The United States Senate

Friday, November 11, 2022 – Georgia may once again decide who will control the United State Senate, weeks after Election Day, as a tight race between Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker was headed to a runoff on December 6.
After haven counted over 99% of the vote, Warnock narrowly leads his counterpart, Walker, a former football star endorsed by President Donald Trump. According to data from Edison Research, Warnock is yet to reach the 50% threshold needed to avoid a runoff.
In a Twitter post from Gabe Sterling, the chief operating officer for Georgia's secretary of state, he said, “while county officials are still doing the detailed work on counting the votes, they feel it is safe to say there will be a runoff for the US Senate here in Georgia slated for December 6.”

Democrats Eye Nevada Senatorial Seat As They Edge Closer To Control Of The US Senate

Saturday, November 12, 2022 – All eyes now turn to Nevada as the Democrats are just one seat away from keeping control of the United State Senate. The Competitive Senate race is increasingly trending in favor of Democrats.
CNN projected that Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, elected in 2020 to fill the term of the late GOP Sen. John McCain, will win reelection. Blake Masters, who had echoed former President Donald Trump’s lies about the election held in 2020, was defeated by Kelly, his defeat marked yet another rejection by voters of a Trump-backed candidate who Democrats portrayed as an extremist.
So far, 49 seats are held by Democrats in the Senate, and Republicans also have 49, which means Democrats need only one more seat to clinch the majority in the Senate (with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote).

Democrat Adrian Fontes Wins A Highly Contested Secretary Of State In Arizona

Saturday, November 12, 2022 – The Victory of Adrian Fontes, the Democratic candidate for the secretary of state in Arizona, may be seen as one of the most significant results of the 2022 midterm elections when talking about the future of American democracy.
Fontes, a former Marine, managed to fend off a strong Republican candidate in an exceedingly close race. His opponent, a state lawmaker, Mark Finchem, has been a member of the far-right Oath Keepers militia and was present at the US capitol on the day of the January 6 insurrection.
When interviewed by the Guardian shortly before election day, Fontes said the victory of Finchem would threaten “the fate of the republic, and the free world too if you accept that America is still its leader.”

Following A Victory In Nevada, Democrats Will Now Control The United States Senate

Sunday, November 13, 2022 – Senator Catherine Cortez Masto won re-election in Nevada, which means the Democrats will hold onto the control of the United; this does hand a significant victory to the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
Republicans, however, remained close to winning control of the United State House of Representatives as officials are still counting the ballots cast in the United States midterm election on Tuesday.
Republican Challenger Adam Laxalt, a former state attorney general who former President Donald Trump endorsed, was narrowly defeated by Cortez Castro. With Masto’s victory, Democrats will control at least 50 Senate seats, with Vice President Kamala Harris able to break ties in the 100-member chamber.
The Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, in a news conference, said, “America showed that they believe in the Democrat’s democracy, that the roots of democracy are deep and strong.”

A Special Counsel Appointed By Department Of Justice Over The Mar-A-Lago Investigation

Friday, November 18, 2022 – A special counsel was appointed by the Attorney General, Merrick Garland, to oversee the criminal investigations into the retention on national defense information at the Mar-a-Lago residence of the former President Donald Trump, and parts of the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
At the Department of Justice on Friday, Garland said, “based on recent developments, including the former president’s announcement that he is a candidate for president in the next election, and the sitting president’s stated intention to be a candidate as well, he has concluded that it is in the public interest to appoint a special counsel.”
Jack Smith, a former chief prosecutor for the special court in the Hague, will oversee the investigations. Garland said Smith had built a reputation as an impartial and determined prosecutor.

Donald Trump’s Twitter Account Has Been Reinstated By Elon Musk After Taking Poll

Sunday, November 20, 2022 – The Twitter account of the United State former President, Donald Trump, has been reinstated by Elon Musk after users on the social media platform voted by a slim majority to lift the ban. His account was suspended in 2021, after the January 6 Capitol riot, for violating Twitter guidelines and also because of the risk of further incitement of violence.
The account appeared to be live on Sunday, although it had yet to post to the more than 80 million users following him. His last tweet came on 8 January, where he declared he would not attend the Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United State.
While discussing the issue, Trump did not appear keen to return to Twitter. When asked by a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership meeting, he said he does not see any reason for it.

Vehicle That Crashed Into Apple’s Store In Massachusetts Killed One Person

Monday, November 22, 2022 - Officials confirmed that at least one person had been killed and 16 others injured after a vehicle crashed into an Apple Store in Massachusetts. The incident happened on Monday, at around 10:45 local time (15;45 GMT) in Hingham, about 13 miles (20 km) south of Boston.
Police confirmed that they had arrested the driver of the car and have been charged with reckless homicide by the motor. District Attorney of Plymouth County, Tim Cruz, said the driver of the car, 53-year-old Bradley Rein, was scheduled to appear in court.
Police Chief Dave Jones told reporters that a “dark color SUV went through at a rate of speed undetermined through a glass window and struck multiple people.” Hospital officials said some of the people brought in were severely injured, with a few of them having life-threatening injuries and some who could lose limbs.

Six People Shot And Killed In A Walmart In Virginia

Wednesday, November 23, 2022 – Police Confirmed that Six people were killed in a shooting at a Walmart in Virginia; it is the second high-profile mass killing in the United State in a handful of days. It was confirmed that the assailant was also dead.
The City of Chesapeake confirmed the incident, saying, “Chesapeake police confirm an active shooter incident with fatalities at the Walmart on Sam’s Circle. The shooter is deceased.” Police spokesperson Leo Kosinski in the early hours of Wednesday said the store in Chesapeake is likely to be closed for several days while they continue the investigation.
The shooting in Virginia Comes three days after a person opened fire at a gay nightclub in Colorado, where five people were killed and 17 others injured. The shooter, who is nonbinary, after being tackled by the patrons at the club and a Drag Queen, was arrested.

Avian Flu Outbreak Wipes Out Millions Of Birds

Friday, November 25, 2022 – In the United States this year, 50.54 million birds have been wiped out by the Avian flu, making it the deadliest outbreak in the country's history, according to the data shown by the Department of Agriculture in the United States.
The deaths of chickens, turkeys, and other birds in the United States this year top the previous record of 50.5 million birds that died in an avian-flu outbreak in 2015 and thus represented the worst United States animal health disaster to date.
The data from USDA shows that the outbreak in the United States began in February and infected flocks of poultry and non-poultry birds across 46 states. The virus, known as highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) is transmitted by wild ducks through their feces, feathers, or direct contact with poultry.

Supreme Court’s Ruling Allows For Early Voting To Begin In Georgia Senate Runoff

Saturday, November 26, 2022 – A week of early voting on Saturday has begun in nearly two dozen counties in Georgia, thanks to Georgia's supreme court ruling. The election is for a contentious runoff between Democratic senator Raphael Warnock and Republican opponent Hershel Walker.
The polling recently commissioned by AARP shows Warnock has a four-point lead over the Donald-Trump-endorsed Walker ahead of the December 6 election.
From the survey by Fabrizio and Associates, Warnock is believed to have had 51% of support from respondents, the first time Warnock secured a majority this year, compared to 47% for walkers, which is higher than the 49.4% of the vote Warnock received in the initial contest on 8 November.
It was discovered that black voters and voters under 50 drove support for Warnock and growing support from independents.

The U.S. Senate Has Passed A Bill Protecting Same-Sex Marriage

Wednesday, November 30, 2022 – The United States Senate has passed the Respect for Marriage Act, legislation which will protect marriage of same-sex that Democrats are trying to get Biden to sign into law before Republicans take over the House next year.
It is now left to the House to pass the bill, a step which the majority leader, Steny Hoyer, said could come as early as Tuesday, December 6. Earlier this year, nearly 50 Republicans in the house supported the measure. Support from 12 Republicans in the Senate was enough to advance the bill to Tuesday’s majority vote, which ended in 61-36.
The support of same-sex marriage from the public is at an all-time high of about 70%, but according to the Movement Advancement Project, an advocacy group of LGBTQ+, if the supreme court overturns the right, not less than 29 states would be able to enforce bans.

Hakeem Jeffries Becomes First Black Party Leader Of The Democrats In House of Representatives

Wednesday, November 30, 2022 – Hakeem Jeffries was unanimously elected to become the leader of the Democratic Party in the United States House of Representatives starting in January. This makes him the first Black American to hold such a high-ranking position in Congress.
Jeffries’s victory also marked the rise of a younger generation of leaders in the House consisting of 435 members and the end of the Nancy Pelosi era, who in 2007 became the first woman to be elected House Speaker.
Jeffries, who is 52-year-old, and hail from New York, will hold the position of House Democratic leader for the 118th Congress that convenes on Jan. 3. The leader of Democrat in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, said he was not surprised that Jeffries, who is a fellow Brooklynite was chosen.
The two leaders live just blocks apart from each other in the borough of Brooklyn.
