Shooting at San Bernardino Apartment
On September 2, 8 people were injured after a shooting occurred during a dice game at a San Bernardino apartment. Three of the eight shot are in critical condition. Police suspect that there may have been multiple shooters, as various weapons were recovered at the scene. (CNN)

Thousands of Exotic Insects Stolen
On September 5, a Philadelphia museum announced that someone had stolen thousands of live spiders, scorpions, and other exotic insects. The theft appears to be an inside job, but no arrests have been made. (CNN)

Shooting in Cincinnati
On September 6, a shooting in Cincinnati’s Fountain Square left at least two people dead and one person in critical condition. The gunman stormed a loading dock before entering a lobby, where three police officers were able to stop the suspect. (CNN)

Panic Buttons for US Hotel Staff
On September 5, major hotel chains announced that in an attempt to curb sexual harassment, they will now arm employees with panic buttons. The rollout is expected to happen over the next few years. (Reuters)

Man Opens Fire in Bakersfield
On September 12, a man opened fire on various locations in Bakersfield, California, killing five people and then himself. Investigations are ongoing. (CNN)

Explosions in Massachusetts
On September 15, multiple explosions occurred in three Boston towns, resulting in one death. The explosions are said to be caused by a pressure issue in gas lines. By September 17, people were allowed to return home, but the experience remains traumatic. (CNN)

Three Shootings in Two Days
On September 19, a shooting in Wisconsin left three people severely injured and the shooter dead, while a shooting in Pennsylvania left four people wounded and the shooter dead. The shooting in Wisconsin occurred at a small software firm and was conducted by the firm’s employee. The shooting in Pennsylvania occurred at a municipal building. Later, on September 20, three people were killed and two wounded at a Maryland Rite Aid. There is currently a suspect in custody. All three shootings are still under investigation, and a motive has not been discussed for any. (CNN)

Stabbing at a Daycare
On September 23, three infants and two adults were stabbed at a New York daycare. The unlicensed daycare allegedly lured in Asian mothers seeking US citizenship for their children. A 52-year-old employee is currently in custody. (CNN)

Brett Kavanaugh Case Continues
On September 29, the FBI approached a second woman who has accused Brett Kavanaugh, a US Supreme Court nominee, of sexual misconduct. Over the last week, Kavanaugh’s first accuser has been testifying to a Senate panel. President Trump has ordered a new investigation in light of this new accuser. (BBC)

Gun Control Bills Passed in California
On September 29, California Governor Jerry Brown signed various gun control bills into law. The bills raise the minimum age for buying rifles and shotguns to 21. The new laws will go into effect on January 1. (Reuters)
