Swap the ghosts for talking cats, replace Bruce Willis with Geena Davis, and add a delightfully animated digital mouse: it's easy to see how Sixth Sense screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan lent his unusual touch to the lively tale of Stuart Little.

The mouse in question (voiced by Michael J. Fox) is adopted by a couple of Upper West Siders (Geena Davis and Hugh Laurie) to provide companionship for their adorable son (Jonathan Lipnicki of Jerry Maguire fame). Snowball the cat, refusing to suffer the indignity of sharing house with a lesser species, scrapes together a plan to get rid of Stuart. Nathan Lane brings an arch, spritely quality to Snowball, and the resulting romps through Manhattan and Brooklyn are fun for all. Giving voice to Smokey the mafioso feline, Chazz Palminteri provides conclusive evidence that the disease of typecasting can be transmitted between humans and animals.
