Despite strong performances, Bogus falls into sentimentality and suffers from dull writing. After his mother (Travis), a Las Vegas performer with a doting maternal side, dies in a car accident, Albert (Osment) goes to live with Harriet Franklin (Goldberg), his mother's foster sister. Franklin, though less than thrilled about the arrangement, begins to notice odd behavior from Albert and soon finds that he is talking to his imaginary friend, Bogus (Depardieu), a real charmer who tends to meddle too much. The film would have fared better if Goldberg and Depardieu had more interaction.
